Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails... Baby Brian's 1st Ultrasound and Pictures!

Well last week we FINALLY got to see our baby for the first time, it was so exciting and all happened so fast. As I am sure you all know now we are proudly expecting a boy, Brian Jeffrey Camp, after his father and grandfather. We are so excited, its totally what we were hoping for, although I'm a little weirded out that there is actually a penis growing inside me now, and even though practically everyone was certain it was a girl. I was even a little convinced myself and asked the sonographer if she was sure lol, but our unabashed little Brian left us no doubt he was a boy. :)

During the exam we found out I have an anterior placenta, basically my placenta formed at the front instead of the back. Its fairly common and just means it will be a little longer before movement can be felt form the outside, my belly will seem to poke out a little more( as it already is for 18 weeks) and the baby is more protected should I ever have an accident with a blow to my belly, so that's good.

Also we were informed that the umbilical cord is only a 2 vessel (one artery and one vein)instead of the normal 3(two arteries and a vein). Although very scary, its one of the more common anomalies as far as cords go. Because of this our baby is at a higher risk for other abnormalities, including chromosomal. Luckily the Dr. told us that no other abnormalities were found during the exam so right now we shouldn't worry.

What this means for us is the doctors will keep a bit more of a watchful eye on our son, extra ultrasounds (yay for more pictures), and in the end they will do weekly stress tests on us to insure he is still getting proper oxygen and stuff. Also 2 vessel babies tend to be smaller but Brian Jeffrey is currently to the book and then some what he should be measuring in at 8 oz.! We are scheduled to return for our next ultrasound to help determine more in 5 weeks but currently our little Brian Bear is an 8 oz., growing, kicking and generally healthy baby!

So here are the rest pictures from Friday:

The first picture at the top is actually a 3D of his sweet little face (with still a little forming to do)
His chin is kind of tucked into his chest and he he has his right arm up and resting on the side of his head (just like his mommy tends to sleep :)

This is the view of baby Brian from the bottom up
(there is a little white hand pointing to his boy parts)

And this is his adorable profile--the head is in the center of the picture...

(notice the tiny nose and mouth, and the right hand resting on the forehead)
